FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: There are so many amazing places to see in New Smyrna Beach but one thing that has been missing is a detailed look at it’s history. The places we all now enjoy sometimes have a long history, that has been lost. There are plenty of references available about how the city began as a British colonial enterprise established in 1768 called the Turnbull Settlement, but no real detailed history on many individual places. Now a New Smyrna Beach history blog launched focusing on just that.

The blog is called “Salty Life New Smyrna Beach“.

As residents for many years we have met or know people who can share first hand insights on many undocumented stories that can only be told by those who lived it.

A recent story about Barracuda’s Bar & Grille shared insights from someone who frequented the restaurant on a regular basis and his daughter enjoying some of the menu items. These unique perspectives will now be shared instead of being lost forever.

Another article uncovered a rare photo of a 2 story extension on our hotel and the day it was swept away by a hurricane.

Did you know that there was once a casino in the 1920s right next door to Breakers on Flagler Avenue ?

Flagler Avenue Casino

Or not long ago there were no decks on the Flagler Tavern and on Tuesday nights it was $3 margarita night ?

Over the past 20 years the transformation of New Smyrna Beach has been nothing less that spectacular. A once quiet beach town known by many for The Garlic restaurant and Images art show, is now go to destination.

We hope that you will enjoy the stories as we uncover the history of the many hidden gems of our beautiful beach community.
